[RS Media]

The RoboSapien RS Media was created by WowWee Robotics. This is a fully programmable robot featuring remote control, autonomous roaming, interaction, pre-programmed phrases in which it can speak in unlimited voices or personalities, and full media capabilities which include a color camera with limited RGB and flesh tone recognition, and stereo speakers and woofer. This robot features an embedded Linux operating system which can be accessed via computer. A third-party RS Media Development Kit provides a way to program the robot using the C++ language and compile and run the programs in Linux on the robot. Also included in the Development Kit is a text-to-speech engine and USB terminal console for accessing the robot's Linux OS directly. Out of the box, the robot also can play Java games, and record and play back sound and video. This is an expensive and very hard to find robot. Currently it is discontinued and efforts to find this robot on eBay and other sources result in no results or they are quite expensive to come by.

I got my RoboSapien RS Media in November 2008 for only under $145 at Buy.com. This robot is named "Nyx" as an odd spelling of the last sylable word "Linux". My RS Media also includes a USB Net function which is not very well documented. Not all RS Media robots have this feature. I use Nyx primarily as a robot development system in which to learn about robotics and to help create a good development system for it, as well as new applications.
